Eye Examinations at visionwise.

At visionwise, we recommend having regular NHS eye examinations — even if your vision seems perfectly fine. Eye checks aren’t just about how well you can see. In Scotland, an NHS eye examination includes:

  • A full assessment of your eye health

  • Checks for early signs of other medical conditions

This means we can often spot potential issues early, before they become more serious.

How often should you get your eyes tested?

Annual eye examinations are recommended for patients who are:

  • Under 16 years old

  • Aged 60 or over

  • Living with diabetes

  • Registered as sight impaired or severely sight impaired

All other patients:

  • Should have an eye examination every 2 years

People with certain health conditions may need more frequent check-ups. Your optometrist at visionwise will let you know when you should return for your next NHS appointment.

If you’re ever worried about your eyes or notice any changes to your vision, you don’t need to wait for your routine check. Simply get in touch with visionwise, and we’ll be happy to advise and examine you as needed.

Who is eligible for an NHS funded eye examination?

You are eligible for an NHS-funded eye examination in Scotland if you are:

  • Ordinarily resident in the UK, including Scotland

  • A refugee or asylum seeker

  • An eligible overseas visitor, depending on NHS exemption rules
